When the Shadows Came

I want to know when I stopped looking at the sky.
When I stopped believing;
When I let all the time slip by...

I want to know when the birds quit their flight.
When the flowers stopped their bloom;
When the day scared me as much as the night...

I want to know when the trees quit dancing with the wind
When the sun started to hide from the day
When all of my thoughts turned to sin...

Was it always this way?

Leave Me Be

I am comfortable here.
With my moon and my stars and my shadows.
I feel safe among the curtain of the night.
I dwell within Its secrets and Its whispers.
I enjoy my conversations with the sky.
I respect Its knowledge about the soul,
and the beings, and the hollows.
And I look forward to a long, quiet slumber.

Not all book clubs need walls.
Here is another terrifying tale being added to Evil's Library.

My Creepsters, I am a work in progress.
When I got home and reviewed this video,
I gave a loud "UGGGHHH" simple because I'm using a new app
and I see it recorded this vertically instead of horizontally.
Thanks for being patient with me as I figure things out.

Can't Wait For The Night To Come

I chose this jam for #MusicMonday because of this verse:

That's when the witches and the ghosts appear
To show you everything is crystal clear
They told me things I know I won't forget
Can someone tell me is it nightfall yet?

So poetic, eh?
So fitting for Night Lights;
For our community.
And check out this wicked art GIF that sways!
I am smitten.

Biding Time

The moon was lined with silver;
A slight breeze blew in.
The Dark came to visit;
With a voice upon the wind.

🌎 World Class Reading...

I don't know about you, Creepsters but I love astrology.
Give me a horoscope book (and a glass of wine) and I am in bliss.
Which brings me to today's post.
My horoscope for the day suggested that I take a vacation (you don't have to tell me twice)
but not just any vacation.  It told me to take one in a library.  (Hells yeah.)
Which led me on a search for the best libraries in the world.
And here is a great article that narrows it down for you a bit.

20 Libraries So Beautiful They'll Bring Out the Bookworm in Everyone

My favorite from the list?
It's actually a tie between Oxford...

Trunk Junk?

I saw this display at a train station and snapped a picture of it because it nuzzled my imagination.  I think I may write a short story about it.  It has my mind wondering what’s inside of it.  Where did it come from?  How long has it been there? Who owned it and why did they never come back for it?
Creepsters.  What do you think?
What do you think could be inside the trunk?
And would you open it?

Spirits 🍻

Hi Creepsters!

Earlier this week on the blog, I covered some unusual medical practices that were overturned when  alcohol came onto the scene.  You can check out that post here: Spirits
Today, I continue with this notion of antiquated cures but adjust my focus from surgical methods to medicinal elixirs.

One of the oldest and most consumed drinks of today, this fermented liquid has been involved in at least 100 medicinal remedies.
Used in the treatment for "bites of mad dogs",
this beverage was also believed to promote courage and to increase memory.
Known for its herbal tones, it was an ideal tonic used for stomach complaints, gout, gallstones and issues with the kidneys, liver and heart and pretty much anything else at the time.
Nicknamed throughout history as the green fairy, it was used for the treatment of indigestion, intestinal worms, childbirth, and "scabs on virgins".
(Whatever the hell that means.)
This elixir treated shock, disease and snake bites.
Red wines were often associated with blood for many centuries.
This liquid was used to cure the ailments of bad breath, bowel movements,
or to numb the senses before a surgery.

Don't limit your imagination to the list above, I encourage you to research some of your own favorite drinks and find out what they were used for back before the medical breakthroughs of recent times.
(And much of the previous information came to me through this amazing article Drink Up! - read it for more detailed info on ancient alcoholic treatments.)

Cheers to the freakin' weekend, Creepsters!
Will you be partaking in any spirits?
And will these spirits be of the paranormal or the intoxicating kind?
Tell me about it in the comment section below.

A True Legend

I saw on Twitter today that Anne Frank is trending.
She would have turned 90.
I wonder what she would have thought of social media?
Would she be part of this madness?
I wonder if she would have married?  Had children?  Continued on with her writing?
I am saddened and angered by her early demise and I can't help but think of all that lost potential - herself as a writer, as a woman, and as a human.
I send love to her and all the others who were taken before their time because of hate and ignorance.  May they finally find peace and love and the acceptance they deserve.
Please know, Miss Frank, I thank you and I honor you.

Hi Creepsters.
Just a quick bit of information about me.
In between the writing and the reading and the creepy activities, I have a side job.
I bartend at a local establishment on the weekends.  Many call me an intoxicologist or a spiritual advisor, but most of the time, I feel like I'm just a glorified babysitter. 😊
Now, whether I am at home or at the bar, I absolutely LOVE mixing cocktails.  It is one of my favorite things to do.  And since I'm always on the lookout for new drinks, I found myself reading a drink magazine earlier today, which led to some very interesting conversation for this blog.

In an article entitled Spirited History, I read about ancient remedies involving booze.  Many early thinkers and medical professionals sought out alcohol to develop new medicines and elixirs to overturn some of the crude methods that were taking place in their times.  Methods like blood letting, mercury ingestion, and trephination.  And in my further investigation on ancient customs of healing, I discovered the idea of corpse medicine.  (You have got to read about corpse medicine.)  More research on this subject led me to an article from the History Channel News involving the top 7 Unusual Ancient Medical Techniques.  And it is quite a page turner (or should I say, a screen pusher.) After wrapping my head around these archaic ideas, I turned my thoughts to gratitude.  I am very thankful that times have changed and that medicine has advanced so tremendously.  I am grateful to be part of this new age.
The magical transformation of medicine from these ancient times to today is staggering when you think about it, and along with these changes came the implementation of alcohol.  And many still use it today, to medicate; to alleviate; to escape.  Even as I write this I am indulging in one fine vodka drink that I created myself.  (I guess bartending is a cool skill to perfect.)
So, I raise my glass to you, Creepster.
Cheers to you and to your health.
And be sure to follow my posts this week as I examine more of this spirit world.

Classic Sylvia...

My book club pick for June is...
Recently - and with a little help - I was fortunate enough to stumble upon this find at a book store.
It is the latest release from the Sylvia Plath archives and comes to us from her 20-year-old self.
It is a story about a girl who is young and hesitant and unsure.
It is filled with decision and allegory.
Released this year, it unveils a sinister train ride where uncertainty seems to be the only constant.
I absolutely loved it.
Check this one out and let me know what you think, Creepsters.

Wired Wrong?

I know there's something wrong with me ~
Some sort of mask, lifted.
Some sort of shade, missing.

I can't seem to siphon the images;
Cannot make them stop.
These nightmares have no shut-off valve ~
No off switch ~
No stopping them from taking over;
Turning me asunder;
Wreaking their havoc;
Owning my soul?

Up For Bid

The devil's wings pushed me down.
They were terribly heavy and bore upon me like a barbell to my shoulders.
I begged for release;
Prayed to the Heavens for refuge
But I knew, I too, had a cross to bear.
And one I had to bear alone.
And the more I fought ~
The heavier it got;
The rougher the road;
The longer the journey:
The darker the night.
