Who are these lost souls?
Were they happy?
-Did they love?
Really love?
-Did they live?
Really live?
And where did they work?
How did they thrive?
How did they pass their days?
Did they read newspapers in the mornings?
Books at bedtime?
Did they drink coffee? Or whiskey? Or beer?
Did they pray?  Eat chocolate? Believe in aliens?  Watch the stars?
And what was it that meant the most to them?
What was it that made them cry?  Laugh?  Scream at the moon?
And what were their names?

I want to know her story...this girl in blue.

I want to know what her favorite food was; 

What books she read;

Who she loved and who she wanted to become.

I want to know if she was young at heart and waiting on a train to take her somewhere new.

Or was she an old soul who wanted it all to end?

Did she have a lover?  A man who charmed her?  A woman who adored her?

Was her favorite color really blue?

What was her name?

What was her story?

And would we have been friends?

The Keeper of the Gate

She looks strong and stoic and capable of anything.

She wears confidence like stone.

But her eyes...

Her eyes frighten me and I wonder if she wishes me harm.

I wonder if she's sad;

Or if she's just seen too much evil in her time that she had to pluck out her own eyes to keep from going insane;

Or perhaps this a form of punishment, a penance for her own sins that finally caught up with her.

I wonder.

I wonder if she'll ever be free.

And I wish that for her.

I wish her peace.
