Goodbye to 2013

Reminisce on the past year; but do not dwell upon it.
Remember the lessons you've learned; but do not linger on the mistakes.
Never forget those you have met;
others who made all the difference
and those who didn't make the cut.

Keep all the fond memories tucked into your heart
and be careful the company you meet in the dark.

Thanks for following our darkness, Creepsters.
Hope to be part of your 2014!

Astrobiology

I stumbled upon this article while checking out my daily news feed and I found it to be quite interesting; Interesting enough to share it with you.
Take a look into the political side of studying the universe:
http://t.news.msn.com/offbeat/this-alien-hearing-is-the-best-thing-congress-has-done-in-months

My opinion?
Knowledge is power and we need to keep programs like these funded, not only for our benefit, but for the advancement of mankind in general.  If not us, then who?

Don't we all question our existence?  Our purpose?  Our time?
And who isn't intrigued by the extraterrestrial?
The endless possibilities of time and space?

The Scariest of Books.

What are you reading right now?
I am into The Shadow Over Innsmouth by H.P.Lovecraft

Is it okay to be redundant here?  I love Lovecraft.  He is quite the horror-teller and if it weren't for a friend (thanks, Jenny) who recommended his short stories, well, I would be missing out ~ big time.

Anyhoo, here is a list of The 50 Scariest Books of all time.  And with Halloween lurking around the corner, it's the perfect time to pick one out and breathe it in.
Lovecraft comes in at number nine.
(Not too shabby, Sir.)

Have you read any of the suggested?

Watching a horror movie as a child can have the biggest impact on our lives.
I, personally, thank Freddy Krueger for lack of sleep through many of my childhood nights and I catch myself - even to this day - cursing that legendary dream-invader for still haunting certain regions of my memory.

My sister was just as impressionable in her youth, and after a run-in with Poltergeist, she quickly developed coulrophobia.  (Although back then, we didn't know the technical term for it, so I just called her a sissy.)

In the traditional style of sisterly battles, I would jump at any chance that showed itself to feed her fear of clowns.  I would hang them from a rope, upside-down, in her closets; set them up to watch her while she slept; and once, as she practiced "Send in the Clowns" on her flute for a music recital, I crawled around the bed she sat on, as she riffed her Sondheim tune, with clown doll in my hand and growling as it met her in mid-song.  Her screams, of course, ruined the melody of the song and also cost me my phone privileges for a month.
But, my God, was it worth the win.

As we have grown - and somewhat matured - I still find myself in the lead.
Even if my sis did call me up to sing the Freddy Krueger theme song
using the most demonic, child-like voice;
when I was home alone;
in the middle of the night.

Yet, I still think I'm one up.
When you mail a decapitated clown to your sister - and she curses you out, on the brink of tears; then has to drive the doll to dispose of it at a fast food restaurant, because the thought of it sitting in her garbage all night is too much to bear.
Well, to quote Charlie Sheen: Winning!

<3 Love you, Sista!  No grudges?  I hope.

Shocktale Trivia

UPDATE
We have a winner
~~~This contest is closed~~
Win one of our own Shocktail glass creations by being the first to guess the Shocktale below.
(The prize includes a bloody good drink recipe too.)
(doll not necessarily included)
Name the author of this Shocktale excerpt:
"Outsiders visit Dunwich as seldom as possible, and since a certain season of horror all the signboards pointing toward it have been taken down.  The scenery, judged by an ordinary aesthetic canon, is more than commonly beautiful; yet there is no influx of artists or summer tourists.  Two centuries ago, when talk of witch-blood, Satan-worship, and strange forest presences was not laughed at, it was the custom to give reasons for avoiding the locality.  In our sensible age- since the Dunwich horror of 1928 was hushed up by those who had the town's and the world's welfare at heart- people shun it without knowing exactly why."
Name the book that houses this excerpt:
"It was on a dreary night of November that I beheld the accomplishment of my toils.  With an anxiety that almost amounted to agony, I collected the instruments of life around me, that I might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet.  It was already one in the morning; the rain pattered dismally against the pains, and my candle was nearly burnt out, when, by the glimmer of the half-extinguished light, I saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open; it breathed hard, and a convulsive motion agitated its limbs."
Contest Rules
I hate to write these, but there's always that one person...
So, here we go:
By taking part in our contests, you agree to the following terms and conditions:
1.  Night Lights Cast Shadows is the judge and jury here.  Why?  Because it's our site, our contest and our name we want to protect.  That means only WE determine if your submissions/answers are appropriate, applicable, correct and received in a timely manner.  ****We adhere to Eastern Standard Time only.
2.  The only entries that will be judged are those posted in the English language in the comment section of our Contest post on our blog, unless otherwise stated.  We are not responsible for lost or late entries; we do not care what you deem unfair or unfit.  This is a contest.  We are offering really cool prizes and it's meant to be fun.  Don't make it into something ugly.
3.  In case of a tie, Night Lights Cast Shadows will use an old-school method of determining the sole winner.  Names will be thrown into a hat and only one winner will emerge.
4.  All winners will be announced on the Night Lights Cast Shadows social networks and will be required to email us his/her full name and snail mail address at Nightlightscastshadows@gmail.com.
(Address information will never be posted or shared by us)
The winner will have 3 days from being proclaimed winner to contact us.  Failure to do so will result in loss of prize and a revoke of the winner's status.  The next in line for the prize will receive notification and has 3 days to contact us.  So on, and so forth.  After three attempts, the prize goes back into the shuffle and will be up for grabs in a future contest.  (And if no one at all answers correctly after 3 days, the contest becomes void.)
Once the prize has been mailed, Night Lights Cast Shadows is no longer responsible for the item or its path to your mailbox; we are not liable for the lifespan of the product or any damages that may occur or ensue.  We are also not responsible for any lack/lapse of good judgement on your part or whatever other fucked up shit you decide to do.
(And we will NOT overnight packages.)
5.  If you are fortunate enough to win and receive one of our awesome prizes ~Don't be scared.
Every so often the voices tell us to do things.  So the prize you receive may be accompanied with a clown, doll's head, or some other disturbing company.  Don't think you can handle it?  Don't play the game.
6.  Some of our prizes are recycled and most of the entertainment prizes are recycled.  Yes, recycled.  That means the books, movies, and music have been viewed before.  Don't like it?  Don't play.  (We're not about to send you junk by any means, we're just saving the trees, man.)
7. No fighting; porn or hatred of any person or group will be tolerated.  Not at all.
If found, we will take all the necessary measures to rid you from our forums.
Also, Our contests, content and prizes are geared towards adults.  By taking part in our contest, you agree to be 18 or over.
8. Facebook, Google, Twitter, Go Daddy, the USPS and the authors or artists of our prizes are in no way affiliated with Night Lights Cast Shadows or its contests or our content.
9. Contests are open only to residents of the U.S. and Canada.  (unless we decide otherwise)
Any and all submissions/comments/answers become our property to post and share as we see fit. These may be used in future promotional activity or just to show off your skills.  :)
10.  Acts of God, tricks by the Devil, viruses, bugs, sickness, computer damage, inactivity, loss of connections ~There are just some things out of our control and so, Night Lights Cast Shadows cannot be held responsible for cancelling any contest at any time.
With all that bullshit being said, Good Luck, my fellow Creepsters!
